About Me
My name is Mimi Motsay
Jewelry by Mimi began in 2022 during a period of personal change. At eighteen, after years of disruption and uncertainty, I left home and traveled to Costa Rica, originally for a study abroad program. What started as a break from routine became an introduction to making things by hand.
In a small coastal town, I began creating jewelry simply and intuitively, using what was available and learning through repetition. Making jewelry became a way to slow down, focus, and create something tangible. That early experience shaped how I approach my work today, not as a story of escape, but as the beginning of a personal practice.
Over time, both my life and my work have evolved. What began as playful experimentation has grown into a more deliberate approach to design. I am now drawn to pieces that feel composed rather than decorative, with an emphasis on balance, proportion, and everyday wearability.
Jewelry by Mimi is an ongoing collection of handcrafted pieces made in small batches. Each piece reflects where I am in my process as a maker, thoughtful, wearable, and designed to be returned to often.
